Provide a brief overview and purpose of the project
The Law of Wars project is one where the whole 9th grade worked together to create three different trials about issues that are currently happening. The topics chosen were the Israel/ Palestine conflict, the Yugolslavia/ Serbia conflict, and the Russia/ Chechnya conflict. The purpose of the project was to teach us more about how to work better under pressure and so we can learn how to collaborate better with others. This was also so that people who wanted to work in the field of Law, knew how it would be like.
What did you learn through this project?
Something that I learned was more about each role and how each role interacts with each other to win the trial. The lawyer is like the leader of the whole fiasco, this person gathers information about what happened interacts with both the evidence expert and the witness to learn more about what happens, and tries to prepare both the evidence expert and witness for the questions that the other lawyer will ask, while coming up with questions for the opposing sides. The evidence expert is the person in charge of gathering, or creating in our case, an artifact that will help the witness and the lawyer win the case, they are sometimes people who have a large knowledge of something that may have caused another thing to happen, or somebody who was there at the time, this could also be a witness. A witness is somebody who was there at the scene of the crime and witnessed what had occurred. They could either be the cause of the problem, or somebody whose loved one was caught at the happening itself.
What was your favorite moment during the duration of this project?
My favorite moment during the duration of the project was doing the wanted poster pictures. This was my favorite moment because I loved how Mr. Gooch and another teacher gathered all the witnesses, making them look rather scared and surprised. We then had them line up against the wall and took pictures of them, which was later made into a wanted poster with the characters name underneath.
What was your greatest strength for this project?
My greatest strength was being a team player and helping when I could. For being a team player, I worked with another person as a broadcaster and aided them in any way I could, or if I could help them I would. As for helping out when I could, there was a certain group that needed some help, so I aided them by governing them in a way. I helped create questions for them, or told them how to react to a question, or how to word the question in a way so it could make a greater impact.
What did you need most support in for this project?
What I needed the most support in was the technology portion of being a broadcaster. I have always had a difficult time using computers and cameras, so I needed somebody to help me with that part. Thankfully, I was partnered with somebody who had great knowledge of using such devices, and made it easier to get all the videos and pictures done and captured rather well.
If there is one thing you could've/would've done differently, what would that be?
If there was one thing that I could have done differently would be to spend more time on the interview questions. What I would have worked on would be to try and make them unbiased and to make it sound like I wasn't on one specific side. I would also try to coordinate with the witness's themselves so I could ask them questions that they would know the answer to. Instead, I had just looked at their witness's statement and tried to change my questions to that.
Is there anything you'd like to change about this project?
The only thing I would change about this project was the length of time we had to complete it. I would have given the students more time to do all the work and to get all their information together so that they could do a better job when in the actual trial. Everything else about this project was perfect. I loved the different topics and how they were related to issues going on right now, and how we all had to cooperate with each other to get the job done.
